(Something which I will note, would NOT be allowed - in its hacked client variety - on many multiplayer servers. In the case of the multiplayer setting this is a tool that is otherwise only obtainable through hacked clients, known as ESP. While I understand Mojang's mission as regards educating would be programmers, and I understand the value of having a tool both for Mojang and coders of this level of power. without having to go to any effort to actually search them out. putting everyone of these at risk of destruction. The Pie chart shows conduits, trapped chests, and campfires. making the essential use of them, on these type servers, difficult at best - impossible at worst. making basic storage in these environments problematic. making Enchanting on unprotected (not plugged in to protect individual player plots) problematic. The Pie chart, in multiplayer situations exposes Enchant tables and bells. This way, servers that would be heavily affected by the abuse of this mechanic can disable it if the need arises, while also being able to diagnose performance issues with the chart when necessary.įurther thoughts and/or suggestions are welcome - this is a problem that I have not yet seen addressed on either the feedback site or the bug tracker. Since this is not a problem for singleplayer worlds, a solution would be an option to make the pie chart an OP-only feature on servers. This means that use of the chart to find (and potentially grief) hidden bases on public survival or factions servers is basically unenforceable, unless admins wanted to start banning players for using 100% vanilla mechanics - an option that I feel is less than ideal. There is also no way to disable the pie chart, not even through /gamerule reducedDebugInfo. Since it can detect block entities such as chests and enchanting tables down to the exact chunk, it essentially acts as a crude form of ESP that allows players to find bases or structures that are otherwise hidden from view. However, the pie chart can offer unfair advantages to players in certain multiplayer situations. Just to be clear, debug tools are extremely important and I think they should always be enabled by default.
